About the Timeless
Music Project
Chocolate Fireguard Records is proud to be based in Huddersfield, UK. It's a fact that music brings people together and it is clear that there is way too much quality local talent not getting a reasonable look in. So under the umbrella of the Timeless Music Project we decided to help draw a load of attention to it by organising a series of events, festivals and showcase opportunities. Scroll down for info on some of the projects ....................
West Yorkshire Music Industry support
Recently TMP has also been making an impact within the wider area of West Yorkshire. The last 2 years (2006/7) and for the annual South by South West (SXSW) International Music Conference in Austin, Texas, TMP produced a special promo 'Showcase' CD sampler of West Yorkshire
independent record labels to help out and draw attention to some of the region’s
diverse music scene. SXSW offers a unique networking opportunity. A definite 'first' for the region, this special project is a collaboration between Chocolate Fireguard,
TMP, UKT&I and Yorkshire Forward, resulting in various distribution deals, airplay and promotion worldwide. There's also a special Bradford Unsigned CD for this year funded by Bradford Council.
So far the labels taking part in the promotion have been: Dance To The Radio, Bad Sneakers, First Word, I Can Count Music, One Note Records, Alamo Records, Chocolate Fireguard, Jealous Records, 2020, Wrath Records, Wax On, Integrity Beatz, Pure Wonder, Brutalize Records, Performing Chimp, On The Bone, Groove Laboratory Productions, Bongo Chilli Records, Klinik Records, Broke Records and Hudd Traxx. The CDs have featured the music of the following exciting West Yorkshire based acts: Yes Boss feat Tom/ Forward Russia, Chenai, O Fracas, Autobots, Shut Your Eyes & You'll Burst Into Flames, The Sugars, The Scaramanga Six, Jon Gomm, Mother Vulpine, Lara Rose, Bongo Chilli, Jack Flash, Rachel Modest (La Cedille), The New Mastersounds, Kidkanevil and Testament, Four Day Hombre, Kava Kava, This Et Al, The Electric Press, Piskie Sits, JD73, Mary-Jane, Slum Science, Buen Chico, L Kareem. For Bradford Unsigned 2007: Laura Groves, This Et Al, Laboratory Noise, Philip G Charles, Neesh, The Psychedelic Singh, Harmacy, Imani Hekima, Rent, Bassman Gerry, Analog Bombs.
From time to time we aim to try and continue with these projects and would like to hear from labels and artists who may find this kind of service useful. Come forward!

S' Timeless Festival Petition
The idea for TMP arose quite naturally out of the Timeless Festival held
since 2002. Developed by Chocolate Fireguard in association
with regeneration agency Huddersfield Pride, young regional talent has been
showcased on three stages alongside national and international artists
in the grounds of the Tolson Museum, Ravensknowle Park, Huddersfield. Each year we have forged new partnerships to ensure that this important event takes place. *** sadly due to a lack of funding partners in 2007 it was necessary for the event to have a year off ***
Truly multi-aged and multi-cultural this is Kirklees's only Community Festival and was Guardian Guide 'pick
of the week' 2 years running (2004 and 2005). Acts have included the Lo
Fidelity Allstars, The Freestylers, Fingathing, DJ Vadim's Oneself, Transglobal
Underground, Fat City Records Sound System, Zion Train, LA Cedille, Panjabi Hit Squad,
Root Jackson, The Bays, Kava Kava, Jehst, Asaviour and DJ IQ, Iration Steppas, The Selecter, Pee Wee Ellis, Snowboy and the
Latin Section to name a few. We've had films, visuals from VJs, bands and DJs from Beasançon (Huddersfield's twin town in France) workshops, much needed showcasing from local bands and in 2005 developed a freestyle hip hop stage.……It soon became pretty clear
that the standard of local bands performing was exceptional. So to
coincide with the Festival, it was felt that the time was right to produce
a compilation to help broadcast this very fact .....
2005: Huddersfield Compilation
The three CDs in the ’Sounds From A Big Town’ series celebrate
some of Kirklees's outstanding homegrown talent. Some of the
artists may have recorded in commercial studios, some may have recorded
themselves on low budgets, but what is obvious here is the sheer passion,
dedication and raw energy of the bands and artists. CD1 caters for hip
hop, urban and chill, CD2 for guitars and CD3 for dance. Most music lovers
would be genuinely surprised by the quality on offer here. Music from
the compilation has received airplay in over 40 different countries worldwide (including spins on KCRW in Los Angeles),
local bands have now been signed and 5 tracks have even been licensed onto
compilations for the Singapore and Japanese markets. Sounds From A Big Town is mainly for promotional
use only. However a strictly limited edition box set is available for
sale, the profits from which go back into the promotion of Huddersfield's
music. See shop for details.
Huddersfield clearly has a diverse and thriving music scene. This compilation
is probably the tip of the iceberg. The reaction to ‘Sounds From
A Big Town’ has been superb. Copies have been handed out as far
afield as Texas, New York, Berlin and Manchester and through TMP, Chocolate
Fireguard is now developing some single artist products from local acts Mary-Jane and Practical Headz (see artists pages)

Other regional work
Concerned by the lack of live opportunities in and around Huddersfield, Chocolate Fireguard Artistes also helped Kirklees Council's Cultural & Leisure Services to develop some of their events including their first Battle of the Bands (2005) and Lark In The Park gala (2001-2005) introducing and developing a band and DJ element to this annual flower and vegetable show/gala event in Greenhead Park, Gledholt Bank, Huddersfield. These included a good few local bands and also established DJs such as Ed Piller (Acid Jazz), Lubi Jovanovic (Straight No Chaser) and bands like Capri, Scaramanga Six, D'booga, Sirius B, Baghdaddies, Dubdadda, New Master Sounds, Random Heroes, Jinrai, etc etc. We hope that these events will continue to grow..
